The pedigree of Hon Simon Moore KC is as well known to the New Zealand public as it is within the legal profession. Earlier this year Simon joined the Tavendale + Partners Board as one of two new independent advisory members. He also works within the firm as Director Consultant, contributing directly to litigation practice development initiatives while also supporting on highly complex client matters.
With a career spanning more than four decades at the highest levels of the law, he has held some of the most significant roles in New Zealand’s justice system. For 11 years, Simon served as a Judge of the High Court of New Zealand, including six years as the Executive Judge for Auckland. Prior to his appointment to the Bench, he was Crown Solicitor for Auckland for 20 years, during which time he also served as Chair of Partners at Meredith Connell for 15 years. He was appointed Silk in 2008.
Throughout his distinguished career, he has also held numerous professional appointments. These include serving on the New Zealand Law Commission’s Prosecution Advisory Group, as President of the Auckland Medico-Legal Society, and General Counsel for the Eden Park Redevelopment Board for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, and as and the Huakina Lia Tika | Senior Courts Open Justice Committee.
Following his retirement from the High Court in 2024, Simon was appointed Chair of the Electoral Commission | Pou Kaiāwha Kaitiaki Take Kōwhiri, reflecting the trust placed in him to oversee one of New Zealand’s most important democratic functions.
Beyond his legal and judicial roles, Simon is deeply committed to the community, serving as President of the Hearing Research Foundation and supporting a range of charitable organisations.
