Sam is an Associate in our Planning and Environmental Law team and specialises on a wide range of environmental issues under the Resource Management Act 1991.
Sam represents clients from multiple sectors, including farming, forestry, residential, industrial, tourism and commercial entities. He regularly advises on freshwater management issues, resource consent applications for farming and developer clients, district and regional planning matters and environmental compliance.
Sam also specialises in undertaking complex due diligence investigations, including for significant tourism, farming and forestry asset purchases. He regularly advises on consenting requirements for irrigation, commercial forestry and urban development.
Having begun his legal career in Queenstown, Sam has considerable experience in advising and acting for clients throughout district plan change processes. He regularly assists clients with submitting on district plan reviews happening throughout the country, and advises on regional plan changes and national planning documents.
Sam has represented clients in hearings on a wide range of environmental matters, including appearing as junior counsel in the Supreme Court.
Sam also works with our Property team drafting, negotiating and transacting sale and purchase agreements for farming, forestry and residential clients. Sam’s breadth of experience across both areas of law enables him to take a holistic and balanced approach to resolving legal issues that arise for his clients.
Sam is based in our Christchurch office.
