Mark is the founding Partner and Managing Partner of Tavendale + Partners.
With deep roots in the Primary sector and strong industry and community connections, he advises some of Aotearoa’s largest and most complex farming enterprises. He has also played a significant role in the sale and purchase of some of New Zealand’s largest farming operations and land holdings.
Widely regarded as a leading authority on intergenerational wealth transfer, he acts as both counsel and strategic advisor to family offices and family businesses, assisting them in achieving commercial and personal goals, even amidst complex family dynamics. He is recognised for expertise in governance, succession, and relationship property dispute resolution; particularly those involving nuanced family dynamics such as blended families.
Mark holds governance roles across several primary sector boards, where his strategic insight and leadership help shape best practice. He also maintains interests in an Auckland-based primary produce export company.
Beyond commerce and the law, Mark has a strong legacy in the world of opera - as both a performer and in governance. He is deeply committed to creating opportunities for young people, not only in law but also in the arts and education. Following the Christchurch earthquakes, he founded and led a charitable trust supporting young singers in Christchurch. He also served as a board member of Medbury Preparatory School for Boys for 12 years, five of those as Chair.
