Henry leads the firm’s Sports Law practice.
Henry brings unparalleled expertise to the sports sector, distinguished by his extensive experience advising players’ associations, national sporting organisations and athletes on a wide variety of matters, including image rights protection and structuring, employment related matters, integrity issues (doping, match-fixing and misconduct), and policy and procedure. Henry is renowned for his strategic insights, exceptional advocacy skills, and commitment to upholding the highest of standards within the industry.
A trained mediator and facilitator, Henry has extensive involvement in alternative dispute resolution and complaints handling, while also negotiating collective agreements for all the major New Zealand sporting codes and serving on key advisory boards, including those for the World Cricketers’ Association.
With time previously spent in sports management and administration, Henry has developed robust relationships with all the key stakeholders across New Zealand sport. His integrity and proactive approach have made him a trusted advisor in navigating complex issues.
Before joining the firm, Henry was responsible for establishing and running the Sports and Recreation Complaints and Mediation Service (SRCMS), where he played a pivotal role in facilitating resolutions for sports related disputes. During this time, he contributed to the New Zealand Sport Integrity Working Group, which shaped integrity measures across the New Zealand sports system and resulted in the establishment of the Sport Integrity Commission.
Henry is an Associate member of Arbitrators & Mediators Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ).
